VITEEE-Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination-Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of VITEEE includes details of the qualifying exam, subjects studied, minimum marks needed, age criteria, and other details. It is important for the candidates to read through the VITEEE eligibility criteria before filling the forms as the candidates who fail to meet the criteria would not be allowed to sit for the exam.

The candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology can apply for B.Tech in Bio-Technology, Bio Engineering programmes for specialization in Biomedical Engineering, B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Bioinformatics but should take maths as a bridge course.

UG Eligibility

B. Tech. Degree Programme
Nationality: 
The applicant for admission should be a Resident / Non Resident Indian National.
PIO and OCI holder are also eligible to apply for VITEEE. (Foreign Candidates studied/studying in abroad can apply directly through foreign category only).

Qualifying Examination:

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE should have either completed or shall be appearing in any one of the following qualifying examinations:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi) The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination -ISCE, New Delhi.
  • Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • As per VIT Norms, NIOS candidates are eligible to appear for the VITEEE 

Eligibility Criteria in the Qualifying Examination:

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).
The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:

  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST
  • Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. 
    CERTIFICATE TO PROVE NATIVITY should be produced at the time of counselling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.
  • Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all the B.Tech. Programmes.
  • Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for B.Tech. Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology programmes. They are also eligible for B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Spec. in Bioinformatics) but after joining, registering Mathematics as bridge course is mandatory.

Age Limit :

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1995 are eligible to apply for VITEEE-2017. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic. Candidates should produce this certificate in original as a proof of their age at the time of counselling, failing for which they will be disqualified.

B.A., LL.B (Hons.) (5 year Integrated Programme)
• The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National, and should have studied regular full time and formal education in the preceding two years in schools located in India. 
• A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 70% overall aggregate. 
• The aggregate marks obtained in the subjects in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 60% for the following categories. 
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST 
• Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. 
• Score Card: The candidate should have appeared for CLAT/ LSAT/ Any other widely recognised Law test and should have secured an impressive score in each component of the test

PG Eligibility

M. Tech Software Engineering (5 year Integrated Programme)

  • Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full time and Formal Education are alone eligible to apply.
  • Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1995 are eligible to apply
  • Candidates should have secured an aggregate of 70% and above in their +2 examination to be eligible to Apply
  • Five year integrated programme for M.Tech Software Engineering minimum of 70% in (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics)
  • The aggregate marks obtained in the subjects in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 60% for the following categories:
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST
  • Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST category must fill in the Proforma which will be available in the information brochure and it has to be attested by competent authority.
  • Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura should fill in the CERTIFICATE TO PROVE NATIVITY Performa which will be available in the information brochure and it has to be attested by competent authority.
  • In case the marks statement is not produced by the candidate at the time of admission, the decision of the Management regarding his/her eligibility and admission to the programme shall be final.
Programme Eligibility
M.Tech Software Engineering (5 year Integrated programme A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the state / central board of examination or its equivalent examination with 70% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Minimum Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates should have graduated with full-time Bachelors Degree of any recognised University with 60% and with a good academic performance.
• Some executive work experience will be preferred
• Extra-curriculars that engage the candidate in healthy and productive interaction with others will be given weight.
• Consistent Academic Record in X and XII standard is required.
• Should have given the CAT / XAT / MAT / GMAT test. A decent percentile score or on any one of these is essential -in each of the components of the test separately

M.Tech. & MCA Degree Programmes
Minimum Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should have graduated with a full-time degree from any recognized University with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks for MCA and M.Tech. degree programmes.
  • Consistent Record in X Std. and XII Std. is required (For MCA Programme).
  • Candidates appearing for their final degree exam / final semester exam in the current year are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should have completed their final Semester / year exams before the selection interview at VIT University.
  • It is compulsory for candidates selected to produce their final year marks statement and Provisional degree certificate before August 15th, failing which, their admission will stand cancelled.

Research Programmes
Internal Full Time Candidates
A candidate who wishes to work for Ph.D / M.S. (By Research) / M.Phil. degree on full time basis (including project staff working in sponsored projects being carried out at the Institute) should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified date.

Internal Part Time candidates
All the staff members of the Institute having the requisite minimum qualifications and one year experience at the Institute can work on a part time basis for Ph.D / M.S. (by research) / M.Phil. degree. They should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified date.External Part Time candidates
Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and candidates sponsored by R&D organisations of following categories are eligible to apply to work on a part time basis for Ph.D. /M.S.(By Research) / M.Phil. degree:

• Laboratories run by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research/ Department of Atomic Energy / Department of Space etc.
• Public Sector undertakings with R & D Units.
• Private Industries recognised by The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Government of India as engaged in R&D work or contributing to R&D efforts. A copy of the certificate issued by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) in this regard will be required to be produced in such cases.
• Medical Industry, Institutions and Hospitals with approved R&D in the relevant area. (A copy of the certificate issued by the appropriate authority to be produced).
• Sponsoring Institutions/ Industries should be located within 500 km. Candidates fulfilling these criteria may apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified date


International candidates
Candidates of foreign nationality who hold Degrees from Indian Universities seeking admission to research programmes with the necessary clearance from the Government of India (The Ministry of Human Resource Development) and possess valid Visa will be treated on par with Indian nationals for purposes of admission to the Institute. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements as given in Section 3. Their degrees must be equivalent to Indian degrees mentioned in Section 3 in Engineering/ Technology/ Science and they should have a good academic record. International Students are expected to have a good working knowledge of English. Candidates with valid GRE and TOEFL scores will be given preference. The case of each foreign applicant will be examined and direct admission (without interview) will be offered purely on merit.Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
The minimum period of study and research from the date of registration for the Ph.D programme to the date of submission of thesis will be 24 months for full-time research scholars and 36 months for part-time Research Scholars.M.S. (By Research) Degree

• The minimum period of study and research required from the date of registration for the M.S. (by research) programme to the date of submission of thesis will be 24 months for full-time research scholars and 36 months for part-time Research Scholars.
• Special cases, if any would be looked into by the Vice-Chancellor and/ or his/her Nominee.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil)
The minimum period of study and research from the date of registration for the M.Phil programme to the date of submission of thesis will be one academic year for full-time research scholars and two academic years for part-time Research Scholars.
