UPSC has invited applications from eligible Indian citizens’ to fill the vacant 418 positions across different defense sectors. The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. Through this recruitment drive, UPSC selects candidates for Indian Military Academy (IMA), Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Airforce Academy. Unmarried men and women candidates are eligible for this recruitment. Women candidates can apply for OTA positions only.
UPSC CDS 01 Important Dates
- Application Period: October 30, 2019,to November 19, 2019.
- Application withdrawn period: November 26, 2019, to December 03, 2019.
UPSC CDS 1 Eligibility
Education
- For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai — Degree from any UGC recognized University or equivalent.
- For Indian Naval Academy — Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
- For Air Force Academy — Degree of a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.
Candidates, who have yet to pass their graduation examination will be eligible only if they are studying in the final year of degree examination and have no backlogs till the last semester.
Age Limit
- For I.M.A: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1997 and not later than 1st January 2002 only are eligible.
- For Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1997 and not later than 1st January 2002 only are eligible.
- For Air Force Academy: 20 to 24 years as on 1st January 2021 i.e. born not earlier than 2nd January 1997 and not later than 1st January 2001. The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 yrs.
- For Officers’ Training Academy: (SSC Course for men) unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1996 and not later than 1st January 2002 only are eligible.
- For Officers’ Training Academy: (SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees, should have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1996 and not later than 1st January 2002.
The women candidates are being considered only for Short Service Commission at Officers Training Academy (OTA). They should indicate OTA as the only choice during application.

The SSB procedure consists of two-stages of screening. Only the successful candidates from stage:01 will get their chance in stage:02 tests.
- Stage 01 comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT).
- Stage II comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference.
